Recently, I attended the Crypto Assets Conference 22B in Frankfurt. Aside from the very insightful panel discussions that took place and were live streamed to over 4000 participants all over the world, the on-site conversations drew an insightful picture of current topics in the crypto ecosystem. Time to reflect on what’s up in people's minds these days and what the future might hold for us.

As a mentor in the DLT Talents program, I am very aware that the blockchain ecosystem is still dominated by men. Saying this, it was amazing to see many of the DLT Talents participants at the event . And I have to emphasize: the program does a very good job of mentoring female talents to educate themselves. The DLT Talents I met have become experts in their field of interest in the crypto ecosystem. And thus, a network of well-educated women in the crypto sector is currently developing. Personally, I believe that the future of the crypto ecosystem will be significantly shaped by us.
It was in a conversation with some of the DLT Talents, that someone brought up the thought “Web3 feels like a refuge”. Let me explain this thought: From what we have been experiencing and observing, many of the people in the web3 ecosystem had the feeling of not really fitting in - their jobs, their companies, their ecosystem - prior to entering crypto and web3. For those, an open ecosystem with (mostly) shared beliefs and the intrinsic motivation to drive innovation and build, instead of overthinking and slowing down new ideas and technologies, feels like the refuge they needed to thrive their enthusiasm, curiosity, and creativity. This might be the case, especially for women. I talked to a woman who told me, “Web3 is a place where I can get and take chances. The same chances as every man. In web2, I had the feeling that seizing opportunities is reserved for men.”
So, from a community perspective, the crypto ecosystem is very vivid. Nevertheless, everyone at Crypto Assets Conference is very aware of the current situation in the crypto markets. Many discussions were circling around the how, when, and what needs to happen to give the bulls the strength to get back on top. Even though no one can give a certain answer to this question, it was my impression that the ecosystem is taking a breath to start into a new bull market soon. Behind the scenes, everyone is building. “Bear market is building time” is the dominant spirit and not just an empty phrase.
Taking all this into account, I am convinced that the crypto ecosystem will recover from the crashes and insolvencies of this year sooner than most people expect. We will see a blooming ecosystem shaped by motivated, innovative, and creative minds. I am already looking forward to the next Crypto Assets Conference and I will stay curious which developments we will be observing until then. Of course, the #CAC22B has been touching many more topics than the ones discussed above. I will give an impression of the sentiment regarding the metaverse, decentralization, and entrepreneurship in crypto in the next article.
